What Do Guinea Pigs Eat?
Guinea pigs should have unlimited access to hay at all times.
Guinea pigs should be fed a measured portion of pellets every day.
All guinea pigs should be fed approximately one cup of fresh veggies per day.
What Kind of Hay?
Adult guinea pigs should be fed timothy hay, orchard grass, meadow hay, or bluegrass hay. Young guinea pigs (less than 6 months old) should be offered alfalfa hay in addition to the above hays listed.
What Kind of Pellets?
Select a pellet that is fortified with Vitamin C and that does not contain seeds or nuts. Reliable brands include Oxbow, Sherwood Pet Health, and Small Pet Select.
Feed veggies that are low in calcium and high in Vitamin C. Guinea pigs love leafy greens such as parsley and romaine lettuce. Good sources of Vitamin C include bell peppers and tomatoes. Feed fruit sparingly.
