The larger the cage the better, piggies will get depressed if their housing is too small. Most store bought cages are way too small. We recommend that you make your own inexpensive cage using cubes and coroplast, as shown on the website Cavy Cages.

The minimum recommended size for 1 piggy is at least 7 square feet or a 2 x 3 grid cage and at least a 7-10 square feet cage or a 2 x 4 grid cage for 2 piggies.

Additionally, piggies should be given plenty of floor time to get exercise, given toys to prevent boredom and wooden chews to maintain healthy teeth.

The only bedding that should be used is ASPEN or re-cycled Paper, such as Carefresh.

DO NOT use CEDAR or PINE they are toxic and can cause respiratory problems and death. Heat-treated shavings (kiln dried) still cause a rise in liver enzymes in rats and mice.

Environmental considerations. 

Optimum temperature for a Guinea Pig is 68° and 72° with humidity between 45-65 %.

Piggies must not be kept in direct sunlight being prone to heat stroke

Piggies must not be kept in draughts being prone to pneumonia
